WINZ Emergency Dental Assistance
If you receive a benefit, pension, or student allowance, you may be eligible for financial assistance from Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ) for urgent dental treatment.
Please get in touch with your WINZ case manager or your local Work and Income office to determine whether you qualify for emergency dental assistance.
If you are eligible, don't hesitate to get in touch with Balmoral Dental Centre to arrange an appointment with Dr Rand Razaq for an examination and a written estimate of the cost of your urgent dental treatment.
Initial Consultation Fees
- Dental examination/consultation: From $95
- Dental X-rays (if required): Additional charges apply, up to a maximum of $195, depending on the number and type of X-rays required.
The cost of the initial consultation and any required X-rays can either:
- Be paid privately at the time of your appointment; or
- Be covered by WINZ through prior approval, if approval has been obtained before your appointment.
If you pay privately and are subsequently approved by WINZ, you may be able to claim reimbursement by providing your receipt to Work and Income. Any reimbursement is at WINZ's discretion and subject to their eligibility criteria.
Following your assessment, we will provide a written treatment plan and cost estimate for submission to WINZ.
- If the required treatment can be completed at Balmoral Dental Centre, we will provide an estimate for the proposed treatment.
- If specialist treatment is required, we will provide a referral to the appropriate specialist together with a comprehensive clinical report. The specialist will then prepare their own treatment plan and estimate for WINZ approval.
If your application is approved, WINZ may pay the approved funds by:
- Loading the approved amount onto your WINZ Payment Card; or
- Paying the approved amount directly into Balmoral Dental Centre's bank account.
Once the approved funding has been received or payment arrangements have been confirmed, we will contact you to schedule your treatment appointment.
WINZ currently provides up to $1,000 in non-recoverable emergency dental assistance for eligible clients. In some circumstances, additional funding may be available as a recoverable loan. WINZ may also assist with funding for dentures, subject to their eligibility criteria.
Terms and Conditions
- Eligibility and funding decisions are made solely by Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ).
- Approval is not guaranteed and is subject to WINZ's assessment criteria.
- Treatment cannot commence until the required WINZ approval and funding arrangements have been received, unless you choose to proceed as a private-paying patient.
- Any fees paid privately are reimbursed only if approved by WINZ and in accordance with their policies.
